Day 9: Firenze, San Casciano; Friday, June 20th
(Dave)
Tuesday we go to 2 of 3 of the great art museums in Firenze. Today we see the crème de la crème-the Uffizi. 4 of us (Sharon, Aleisha, Theresa and I) leave the rest of the clan to their own devices. We had reservations for the Uffizi and made it in plenty of time. We had a tour guide books, but we really only needed one-Rick Steve's "Mona Winks". This book is a guide to the best museums in Europe. You have to love a book that tells you to rip the pages out of the book for each visit to a museum and that they'll replace your book when you're done. We start with the Gothic art and learn about art when the world was flat and so was the art. Then we enter the Renaissance and see Botticellis funky toes and beautiful Venus. A few more gorgeous paintings later we leave the Uffizi and begin our quest for food, followed by our more important quest for the BEST gelato in Italy-Vivoli. Afterwards we go to Santa Croce to see the church that is famous for its tombs. Dig this list: Michelangelo, Galileo, Dante, Machiavelli, and a few others. As T & I walk up to Galileo's resting place we sing some IG to commemorate the moment.
It was as short trip to Firenze on this day. We made our way home via what would be Mom's hotel the next day. That night we are treated to a seafood dinner from Mom at a restaurant in San Casciano in Val di Pesca. Getting to this restaurant was quite a feat. In the usual fashion our Italian directions were less than satisfactory. But we eventually arrived. The town was very quaint, w/ a narrow street through the middle. After dinner we went for Gelato and had a wonderful evening stroll through the town. This was a wonderful final evening as a family in Tuscany. |

This is the small bridge we had to go over in order to get to the villa.
I have a lot of pictures of Ponte Vecchio.
This is my favorite.
